Meet the AI Agents:
Detention Handling
Uses Opendock appointment and gate timestamps to warn the dock lead before a truck runs past its free time, and reports dwell and detention by carrier and facility. For shippers who pay detention, it also checks a carrier’s request against those timestamps and your contract rates.
A truck is about to run out of free time
A truck on #LS-53018 has been waiting 90 minutes for a door.
Detention · #LS-53018
What just happened
A truck sat waiting for a door. Loadsmart AI warned the dock lead before the free time ran out. When the carrier still billed detention, it checked the request against the gate times and the contract rate, approved the amount that matched, and added it to the facility’s detention report.
Disputes go to a person.
Requests that match the gate record are approved at the contract rate. A request that claims more time than the record shows gets the supported time back, with the timestamps. When a carrier pushes back, or the record has a gap such as a missed check-out scan, your freight or AP team takes it with the full timeline.
Watches the clock on every truck, and settles the bill.
01
Watches dwell against free time
Checks every truck on site every 15 minutes against its free time, using Opendock appointment and gate timestamps.
02
Warns before the clock runs out
Alerts the dock lead when a truck has waited too long for a door, or has been at the door too long, with the truck, the dock and the time left. It recommends which waiting truck gets priority; the dock lead decides.
03
Reports dwell and detention
Keeps a running report of dwell and detention, by carrier and by facility.
04
Checks the detention request
For shippers who pay detention: approves a request that matches the Opendock timestamps and your TMS contract rate, and returns one that doesn’t with the supported time.
What your team stops doing. And what that’s worth.
Less detention to pay
The dock lead sees which waiting truck is closest to the end of its free time, and decides who gets the next open dock.
Requests settled in minutes
Each request is checked against the gate record when it arrives, so nobody rebuilds a timeline days later.
You know what detention costs
A report by carrier and by facility shows where the money goes and which docks cause it.
Nothing to rip out. Nothing to migrate.
Your existing systems stay your system of record. Loadsmart becomes your system of action — the work runs on the Loadsmart Platform and the outcome is written back where your team already looks for it. Timestamps are only as accurate as gate check-out (Gate Management) or timely status updates; without either, the agent works from appointment times. Rates come from your TMS or contracts.
Ten more agents running the same way.
Loadsmart AI is eleven specialized agents working the freight lifecycle end to end. If none of the eleven match what is slowing your team down, describe the task and Loadsmart will build the agent to run it.
